Connected or aloof in your interactions?

In present times, we are unable to connect wholly with people in general, especially with family and friends. This has made quality time among three generations, i.e., the elders (age group 60's and above), the middle group of adults (age group 20's to 60's), children ( includes toddlers and teenagers), very limited for various reasons like easy information availability on internet, lack of time and patience for one another, lack of listening skills, diverse interests, plethora of gadgets including TV, computer, mobile, etc. The elder generation is using TV  to fill their vacuum and loneliness while the younger generation is getting hooked on to gadgets and slipping into a different surreal world. There are  many more reasons to this change and instead of figuring out what caused it or which are they, let's directly see how we can overcome them!

 1. Have conversations : We all have to make a conscious effort to have effective conversations in all our relationships. This means that we give full attention, listen fully and then respond.

 2. Go for walks together: Take short walks to local grocery shops or parks nearby together  without any distractions.

 3. Do chores together: Share the household work and do it with cooperation and understanding.

 4. Play games together: This can be either indoor or outdoor games. This can bond people very easily.

 5. Take interest in each other's lives: Be aware of other's hobbies and activities. Show interest in it wholeheartedly.

 6. Using technology to connect: Explain and teach elders how to make online transactions, use WhatsApp, etc and make them feel empowered.

 7. Outings: Go for movies, plays, shows together regularly. Also plan a picnic or vacation as and when possible.

 8. Visiting families and friends: Though this is an outdated practice, surely brings people closer.

 9. Cook together: This can be a fun experience wherein the elders can be actively encouraged to share their expertise and youngsters can be involved to help and participate too!

 10. Spend quality time: Keep aside a time wherein everyone is together in one place without TV, phone or other distractions if even for a short while. This time can be used to chat, relax, listening to each other's favourite music etc.

So let us work on building relationships which exude harmony, peace and happiness instead of conflict and negativity.
